Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology (ICAC)

The Institut Català d’Arqueologia Clàssica – Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology (ICAC), based in Tarragona, has been collaborating with the Iberia Graeca Centre since the 1st of October 2011, putting together the document database of the Iberia Graeca website. The ICAC is a public centre that researches Classical Archaeology, which was created by the Generalitat of Catalonia and the Rovira i Virgili University, with the participation of the Catalan Inter-University Council. Its purpose is to research, offer superior education and disseminate the classical civilisation and culture. As part of the programme contract signed with the Rovira i Virgili University, the ICAC has contracted a trainee researcher who will compile and introduce the Greek material published about Iberian sites in the Tarragona area (La Moleta del Remei d’Alcanar, El Castellet de Banyoles de Tivissa, Alorda Park de Calafell, Tarragona, etc.) into the Iberia Graeca document database. One of the ICAC’s specific lines of training and of research is Greek archaeology, which means it will be collaborating in future research projects developed by the Iberia Graeca Centre.

One of the lines of research at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid is related to the iconographic representations of Greek ceramics from the centuries VI to IV B.C. The research project HAR2009-07448, entitled “Imágenes de Atenas en el mundo ibérico. Estudio de la iconografía y de la recepción de los materiales griegos del siglo IV a. C. en la Península Ibérica” (Images of Athens in the iberic world. Survey of iconography and reception of Greek materials in the Iberian Peninsula in IV century B.C.) is being currently executed. The project is directed by Carmen Sánchez Fernández, from the Departamento de Historia y Teoría del Arte; the following researchers also take part in the project: Paloma Cabrera Bonet (MAN), Maite Miró (Generalitat de Catalunya) and Margarita Moreno (MAN). The main objetive of the project is to document and research on Greek ceramics from IVth century B.C. found in Spain. The database project will be part of the documental base of Iberia Graeca within collaborative programs between Iberia Graeca Center and the Departamento de Historia y Teoría del Arte of the UAM for the study of Greek material culture in the Iberian peninsula.

Cervantes Institute in Athens

Since 1992 the aim of the Cervantes Institute in Athens is to spread the language and culture of Spain (and Spanish-speaking countries of Latin America) at Greece. Among the cultural activities programmed by the Cervantes Institute in recent years, were those related to the Greek archaeological heritage in the Iberian Peninsula. From the moment of creation of the Iberia Graeca Centre, the Cervantes Institute in Athens has the organization that has channelled diffusion and the relationship of Iberia Graeca with Greek archaeological institutions and Greek society in general. In this regard, included the presentation of the initial project in November of 2008, within the framework of the celebration of the Emporion Conferences, on the occasion of the commemoration of the centenary of the beginning of the archaeological excavations of Empúries. Also the official presentation of the Centre and its different lines of action, in March 2012, which had the participation of the Greek Association of Archaeologists. Collaboration between the Cervantes Institute of Athens and Iberia Graeca will in the future continue bringing the mainland Greek archaeology Greek society and promote research projects carried out in Greece from the Centre.

Museo Arqueológico de Burriana

The Museo Arqueológico de Burriana (MAM), located in the region of Plana Baixa (Castellón). Its aims are the conservation, research and dissemination at information about the archaeological heritage of Burriana and the region and, by extension, in the province of Castellón. The Museo Arqueológico de Burriana, with the collaboration of the Universitat Jaume I, will coordinate the documentation and computerization of the materials Greeks published of the Iberian sites in the province of Castellón. Among them, for example, from the necropolis of Orley (Vall d'Uixó), the settlement of Castell (Almenara) or the settlement of Puig de la Nao (Benicarló), these will be added to the document database of Iberia Graeca. Also planned is the participation of the Museo Arqueológico de Burriana in research projects on the Greek material culture in the Iberian Peninsula from the developed Iberia Graeca Center.
